‘Photography Isn’t just an image, any more than a painting is just paint. The print is an object, and this object becomes the embodiment of a concept.’ — Doug and Mike Starn
The essence of a thing, its soul, its life-force, its aura and its chi are just some of the words used to try and describe the indescribable. This body of work searches for the sublime in nature and looks on a metaphysical level of the inexplicable force that seems to connect every living thing. Flowers placed directly onto photographic paper appear to leave their aura or essence. The flowers, some taking up to seven days to expose in the sun, go through a slow death leaving their beauty and pain upon the paper. Immortalised but forever dead.
